To serious excitement from numismatists, the Royal Canadian Mint has announced at the American Numismatic Association’s 2011 World’s Fair of Money in Chicago the upcoming release of new silver and gold bullion coins.
The new designs of the 2011 1oz Gold ‘Royal Canadian Mounted Police’ coin and 2012-dated 1oz Silver ‘Cougar’ coin were unveiled at the coin show to an audience of Mint distributors and expert collectors. Perhaps most significantly, both coins are struck to 99.99% metal purity – the highest available.
In recent years the Royal Canadian Mint has gained a reputation for minting coins of an extremely high metal purity – with the Gold ‘RCMP’ coin remaining the world’s purest gold bullion coin.
Moreover, with gold increasingly viewed as the premier safe haven by many investors, high purity coins have become subject to high demand the world over. Demand for bullion coins has recently hit record levels – securing issues with a high gold content may become that little bit more challenging.
