The Perth Mint has recently announced the imminent release of the new 2012 Silver Kookaburra, available from 1 September. Continuously struck by the Perth Mint since 1990, the coin is struck in 999/1000 silver and issued in one ounce, ten ounce and one kilo sizes. The Kookaburra features a new reverse design of the eponymous bird perched on the branch of the eucalyptus tree.
One of the most popular silver issues worldwide, its popularity at a time of high silver prices was evident earlier this year, when the 2011 1oz Silver Kookaburra sold out of its entire mintage of 500,000. This year’s release looks set to follow suit – with no raising of the 500,000 limit and a gradual recovery of silver prices, an early sell out could be possible.
