The Royal Canadian Mint has just revealed details of the next coin in the exceptionally popular $20 Silver Coin Series – the $20 Hockey Silver Coin.
Minted in 7.96g of 99.99% fine silver, the new detailed reverse design by Greg Banning features a Canadian ice hockey player in action, with the obverse featuring Susanna Blunt’s familiar effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
This new coin is the seventh in this series of coins, with the first, the $20 Maple Leaf being released in early 2011.
Excitement in the numismatic market for this new series was obvious from the beginning with the Maple Leaf coin selling out in a matter of weeks, despite an edition limit of 200,000.
The following five coins all had a higher mintage limit of 250,000, but nevertheless likewise all sold out within weeks. With this provenance, the new $20 Hockey Coin is strongly expected to follow suit and sell-out in a very short period of time.
