Earlier this year it was announced that the Queen’s portrait for our coinage was to change, which prompted huge demand amongst collectors for coins featuring the Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS portrait. One of the most sought after issued was the 1st January DateStamp™ Sovereign – which was already selling well and was over 75% allocated in December, long before its official New Year release.
The remaining 25% were unsurprisingly snapped up before the end of January. This is an issue we would normally expect to have available until the end of February, but not this year.
The DateStamp™ issues – coins sealed in a tamper-proof capsule and officially postmarked by Royal Mail with a specific date – have built up a strong tradition for selling out, but we didn’t expect the full edition limit of 995 to go so quickly.
The message has never been clearer – if you see a coin that would be a good addition to your portfolio, you simply can’t afford to wait because a sell-out could be just around the corner.
