Measuring the size of an extra-large pizza and weighing the same as a bottle of wine, a rare ‘million dollar’ pure gold coin could soon be the prized possession of a UK collector or investor.
The coin was one of five produced by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2007. It carries a face value of $1m, but is valued at a staggering £3.8 million on today’s market.
That’s £1m more than its weight in gold is worth, with 100kg of gold currently worth just over £2.7m.
The coin, which features a maple leaf design on the reverse and esteemed Canadian artist Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, is currently on sale through a UK gold broker.
With the other four examples held in private collections, this is the only one likely to be seen for quite some time.
