In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal moment often credited with shifting the course of World War II, a special coin range has been introduced.

HMS Warspite:

HMS Warspite was one of the most illustrious and formidable battleships of the Royal Navy during World War II. Commissioned in 1915 during World War I, it served with distinction in the Battle of Jutland, earning a reputation for resilience after sustaining significant damage and still returning to port.

During World War II, Warspite played a crucial role in various theatres of operation including providing fire support during the D-Day landings and bombarding German coastal defences to assist the Allied amphibious assault on Normandy beaches. Its accurate gunfire helped neutralise enemy positions and provided cover for Allied troops landing ashore.

Warspite earned numerous battle honours and accolades throughout its service, becoming one of the most celebrated battleships in Royal Navy history. After the war, Warspite was decommissioned and eventually scrapped in 1947. However, its legacy lives on through various memorials and historical records, and now it’s celebrated on its very own coin.

Spitfire MK IX:

The Spitfire Mk IX was developed as an evolution of the earlier Spitfire models to counter the threat posed by the new generation of German fighter aircraft.

Renowned for its exceptional performance, agility, and handling characteristics, it had a top speed of over 400 mph (640 km/h) and excellent manoeuvrability, making it a formidable adversary for enemy fighters.

The Spitfire Mk IX is regarded as one of the most iconic and successful fighter aircraft of World War II. Its sleek design, outstanding performance, and contribution to Allied victory have made it a symbol of British aviation excellence and a beloved icon in aviation history.
